PORTLAND, Ore.— Light rail service to Portland International Airport will be restored on Sunday after a four-month hiatus, transit agency TriMet has announced.

Service to the airport was halted in June as part of a $215 million project adding a second track on the MAX Red Line segment leading to the airport and rebuilding the airport station, as well as an ongoing project extending the west end of the Red Line in the Beaverton-Hillsboro area [see “Portland, Ore., airport loses light rail service …,” Trains News Wire, June 18, 2023]. In the interim, a shuttle bus has replaced light rail service between the Gateway Transit Center, the airport, and three intermediate stops.

The Beaverton-Hillsboro extension is expected to open next year.
