 At Dolton, a north CN freight swings off the L&N line and onto the IHB. It is led by a GP40LW and an SD40. While he is still squealing around the southeast connector, an eastbound CSX transfer from Barr Yard, follows. It is lead by an ex-C&O GP15T, ("T" stands for turbocharged).

 A long Canandian National train crawls up the hill at Wellsboro and crosses CSX's Garrett Sub, led by an ES44AC. The second unit is a rare C40-8M still lettered for British Columbia Railway. The third unit is a rare EMD SD60F. All three locomotives are running "elephant-style."

Colorful CN C44-9W/WC SD45/IC Sd40 train at Tolono 2004

 

In my last scene of Tolono, a northbound CN freight crosses the NS main, led by an impressive consist- a CN C44-9W, a Wisconsin Central SD45, and an Illinois Central SD40! A few months later, my college career at the University of Illinois came to a close, and this ended my video footage of 2004.

5 victims identified after South Shore train hits SUV in Gary

 

 

 

GARY, Ind. (WNDU) - The five victims who died after a South Shore train hit an SUV late Wednesday night in Gary have been identified.

According to our affiliate WMAQ, officials have identified those victims as:

• 24-year-old De’Mario Craig
• 21-year-old Byron Towns
• 20-year-old Latianna King
• 20-year-old Maurice Parrish
• 20-year-old Sherise Parrish

All five victims reportedly lived together at the same address in Gary.

The collision happened around 10 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. 12/20 and 7th Avenue, just west of Miller station.

South Shore Line officials say Train #133 was heading east when a southbound SUV went around a crossing arm that was down and got hit by the train. A witness told police the driver went around it to try to beat the train.

Gary police say all five victims were ejected from the SUV, and they all died at the scene.

Officials say no passengers or crew members aboard the train were injured.

“Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this tragic incident,” the South Shore Line said in a news release. “We remind everyone to never attempt to cross railroad tracks when signals are activated, and to always expect a train on any track from any direction at any time.”

South Shore trains were temporarily stopped after the crash.
