 Amtrak’s westbound Southwest Chief cruises across the historic Raton Pass Line at Milepost 686 while passing an FRA inspection truck working alongside the railroad. The famous Chicago–Los Angeles train is moving at track speed through the high plains when it encounters the maintenance vehicle observing operations. A unique detail on this train is the Pacific Surfliner coach riding on the rear of the consist—an uncommon sight far from its usual California territory.
