At Deshler, Ohio, a long southbound mixed freight from CSX Transportation grinds its way around the southeast wye before entering the busy Toledo Subdivision on its way toward Lima. Leading the train is a modern GE ES44AC, but the real surprise is trailing behind—an unusual GE P32AC-DM painted for Metro-North Railroad. Seeing Metro-North Genesis power on a CSX freight in Ohio is definitely a rare catch for railfans. An ES44AC DPU is assisting mid-train. Watch closely as the long train works through the wye at this legendary railfan hotspot known as the “Crossroads of the B&O.” You can also spot a color position light signal changing aspects as the movement lines up for the Toledo Sub.
