Step onto the captivating world of Hotrail Productions, where the magic of lights, camera, and trains combines to create an unforgettable experience. I travel all over the country photographing railroad history in the making. My footage dates back to 1995. Whether it's a thrilling action sequence or a heartwarming romantic scene, the railway has long been a favorite setting for filmmakers and TV producers.
Railfan hotspot Deshler, Ohio delivers again as a westbound Union Pacific intermodal stack train slowly creeps across the famous CSX Toledo Subdivision diamonds. Deshler is one of the most popular train-watching locations in the Midwest thanks to its busy diamond crossing and frequent freight traffic.
Providing the muscle for this train is a pair of EMD SD70M locomotives without the flared radiators, a design detail that stands out to locomotive enthusiasts. As the long stack train rolls over the former Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) mainline, the sound of wheels clattering across the diamonds is classic railroading.
With constant action from multiple railroads, Deshler remains a must-visit destination for railfans looking to capture modern freight operations in the heart of northwest Ohio.

Amtrak’s westbound Southwest Chief cruises across the historic Raton
Pass Line at Milepost 686 while passing an FRA inspection truck working
alongside the railroad. The famous Chicago–Los Angeles train is moving
at track speed through the high plains when it encounters the
maintenance vehicle observing operations.
A unique detail on this train is the Pacific Surfliner coach riding on
the rear of the consist—an uncommon sight far from its usual California
territory. Moments like this show how interesting long-distance
passenger trains can be, with equipment sometimes traveling far from
home rails.
Filmed on September 2, 2020, this clip captures classic Amtrak mainline
action on one of the most scenic and historic passenger routes in the
United States.
